I have a couple of slow cookers and am a big fan of the easy meals that can be produced with the help of these great little kitchen staples.
I bought my first one way back in the mists of time, when I first moved out of my parents’ house and into my first flat. That was about 25 years ago and it’s still going strong. The only other items I’ve bought that have lasted that long are a designer handbag and a tattoo, so the slow cooker is in good company.
Simon and Alison Holst are more recent converts to the joys of slow cooking: neither mother nor son had used one until eight years ago. Now, they are also fans of the slow cooker and all it can offer.
Their first two books on slow cooker – 100 Great Ways to Use Slow Cookers & Crockpots and Year Round Recipes for Crockpots & Slow Cookers – have sold over 360,000 copies and I have to admit that when I saw this one land on my desk I wasn’t expecting to be wowed. With two cook cooks on slow cookers already I did not think this one would have anything fresh to offer.
I was wrong: it’s a fantastic book, which I’m sure will be every bit as popular as the earlier offerings.
As the title suggests, the recipes are all new and there’s sure to be something for every taste.
So far I’ve only managed to test seven of the recipes and they have all been successful. In fact, the family recommends the teriyaki chicken.
