Still good after 12 years

Simple Cafe Food, by Julie Le Clerc (Penguin, RRP $32):

This is a reprinted, repackaged and updated version of Julie Le Clerc’s 1999 book by the same name and I have to say, the recipes still stack up well as good cafe food 12 years down the track.

Food trends come and go and looking over old magazines can sometimes offer a bit of a scary trip down a gastronomic memory lane but the recipes in Simple Cafe Food have dated well.

This is a fantastic collection of cafe-style recipes with everything from antipasti and salads to preserves and sweets.

However, the best part of all this is how easy these recipes are: they look (and taste) impressive but can be achieved without spending hours slaving over a hot stove.
