Wordy help at hand

Your Joking, by Mary Mountier (Grantham House Publishing, RRP $19.99):

Did you spot the error in the title? If not, the tagline beneath the heading on the book’s cover might give you a hint: “including how to know the difference between your and you’re”.

This brilliant wee gem of a book is a handy guide to all those tricky spelling and grammar traps that trip us all. The author has been collecting clippings for nearly two decades and uses these, along with her own drawings, to illustrate the book.

It’s not preachy, pedantic or snobby. Instead, it simply presents a range of tips in a way that is easy to understand and remember.

If you’ve ever agonised over whether it should be complementary or complimentary, or if you mean imply or infer, this is the book for you.

It’s a fantastic little book at a fantastic little price.
