Diary of a hard-case road-trip

Work Can Wait, by Wayne Perkins and Dennis Deavoll (Houndster Books, $34.95):

Following the progress of a group of hard-case Kiwis riding across America, Work Can Wait is a travelogue, a diary and a whole lot of fun.

The book has been put together by Dennis Deavoll, using e-mails that Wayne Perkins had sent back to family and friends in New Zealand as he made his way from Hawaii to California as part of a group of five couples.

The e-mails are unedited and, along with the memorabilia and photos included with each one, provide a snapshot of the people and places encountered along the way.

This is an 18,5000km road trip in all its glory, a coast-to-coast and back trip that took place over six hectic but happy weeks.

If you’ve ever thought about travelling to that part of the world, this book will give you a real view of heartland America, from the point of view of heartland Kiwis.
