Story fell a little flat

One Life, by Rebecca Frayn (HarperCollins, $24.99):

Rose and Johnny are a pretty average, every day couple enjoying life and all it has to offer.

However, all that changes when Johnny suddenly decides it’s time for more commitment, something more real and substantial in their lives.

Rose agrees to starting a family but, as is a common theme these days with couples starting families later in life, they find it’s not as easy to conceive as they had hoped it would be.

The book looks at the strength of the couple’s relationship, the seemingly no-so-equal desire to have children and the hurdles they face as they try to have that baby.

In theory, it could have been a great book. Unfortunately though, I found it a little flat: it didn’t feel real and didn’t pull me into the story.
