Trade Me Your Ultimate Guide by Juha Saarinen; foreword by Sam Morgan (Penguin, $19.95):
The Trade Me phenomenon doesn’t show any sign of slowing down so it’s no surprise that there are now how-to books on the market covering the uniquely Kiwi world of online auctions.
The name of this book is a bit of a mouthful but looking beyond that I expected big things from the guide, which promised all the information needed to make the most on online trading.
With a foreword written by Trade Me guru and founder Sam Morgan, my expectations were raised even higher. However, I was left feeling somewhat disappointed.
The information in Trade Me: Your Ultimate Guide is drawn straight from the Trade Me help files. The same help files available to every user on the site, free of charge.
Okay, I admit the information has been nicely pulled together and indexed but it doesn’t alter the fact that it’s simply repackaged freebie help files.
Instead of writing the foreword for this book, perhaps it’s time Mr Morgan got the on-site help files organised in a more user-friendly and easily searchable way.
Yes, I know there are people out there who will never read the on-site help section, so perhaps if they spend $20 of their hard-earned cash on this they might take some notice of what they can and can’t do.
For the rest of us, spend the $20 on success fees instead.
