The Quick-fix Hangover Detox, by Jane Scrivner, Piatkus
If you’ve ever had an attack of the “never agains” the morning after the night before, this could be the book for you.
Author Jane Scrivner, who established the British School of Complementary Therapy in 1991, has put together an easy-to-follow, comprehensive book covering how to prime your body before drinking, advice for how to drink and solutions for the after effects.
The first section looks at preventative and preparatory steps that can be taken before drinking, much of it commonsense, such as not drinking on an empty stomach, and includes a list of the bad points of drinking. Then there’s what to do (and not do) when you are drinking.
The next section looks at what to do after drinking and how to deal with a hangover, including what foods will help and a few hair of the dog-style recipes for when things are really bad.
Finally there’s the “If you can’t beat them, join them” section, where Madame Bollinger’s reply to a question about her champagne drinking habits is included: “I drink it when I am happy and when I am sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it – unless I am thirsty.”
