Stephen Leather delivers again

Cold Kill, by Stephen Leather (Hachette Livre, $36.99):

What’s even deadlier than terrorists?

According to this book, it’s the men who’ve got them in their sights.

Cold Kill kicks off with the Asian Boxing Day tsunami and the action just builds up from there, with everything from people-smuggling to attempted murder to hold your attention.

Once again author Stephen Leather has come up with a full-on, action-packed read.

Undercover cop Spider Shepherd’s ordinary investigation turns into a matter of life and death when he comes across a terrorist cell planning to target hundreds of passengers on a train below the English Channel.

The story flicks backwards and forwards between various main players in the drama but at no time does it get confusing or disjointed. In fact, the author uses the technique almost as a literary cliffhanger in the tradition of Dallas and the whole who-shot-JR plot.

The climax of the story comes without the usual need to tie up loose ends and make everything pretty that so often destroys a good yarn.
