A promise kept leads to regrets

Promise Me, by Harlen Coben (Orion, $24.99):

When Myron Bolitar promises his best friend’s teenage daughter that he is the one person she can call any time, any place to ask for help, he never imagines it will be a promise he regrets keeping.

After a phone call from Aimee during the early hours of the morning, Myron collects her from a cold street corner but she convinces him not to take her home.

Instead, she asks to be dropped off at a house in the suburbs and quietly disappears into the night.

As Aimee’s panicked parents try to come to grips with their daughter’s mysterious disappearance, Myron must convince the cops he isn’t a suspect while he deals with a bunch of locals who look more and more suspicious as the story unfolds.

Promise Me is full of twists and turns and will keep you guessing right up to the end.
