Things that go bump in the night

Unexplained New Zealand, by Julie Miller and Grant Osborn (Reed Publishing, RRP $29.99):

We Kiwis there is a real fascination with things that go bump in the night and Julie Miller and Grant Osborn have come up with a book to feed that fascination.

Here you’ll find what are tagged as true stories of spooks and phantoms, monster sightings, strange lights in the sky, celebrity hauntings and supernatural mysteries.

The authors have pulled together a bunch of sensational tales that include ghost sightings at Auckland’s abandoned asylums and Larnach Castle, in Dunedin. along with Bigfoot, giant squid and a phantom panther.

They even offer up some tips on how to start your own do-it- yourself ghost-hunting expeditions and point you in the right direction to find other paranormal enthusiasts online.

Taken with a grain of salt, it’s a quirky and interesting read but I won’t be looking under the bed the Bogey man.
