New Zealand Gallery, compiled by Denis Robinson (New Holland Publishers, RRP $49.99):

Packed with photographs of stunning artwork, New Zealand Gallery is a portfolio of this country’s creativity.

However, the book is more than just amazing images: Denis Robinson has included interviews interviews with artists working in a wide range of areas, such as contemporary fibre art, wood sculpture, ceramics and glass.

This showcase of talent highlights more than 60 New Zealand artists, resulting in a comprehensive collection of contemporary New Zealand art.

All too often, books on the New Zealand art scene feature the same names over and over again.

While there’s no doubting the incredible talents of our elder statesmen and women of the art world, it’s incredibly refreshing to see some new faces emerging and being given the nod of approval.

Also a lot. You'll find a little about both of those pastimes here, and on By George.
