Recipe for engaging nonsense

Celebrity Cat Recipes, by Joe Bennett (HarperCollins, RRP $28.99):

A disclaimer on the front cover states this book may contain nuts while on the back cover there is the assurance that the book contains neither cats nor recipes.

That might be the case but this latest collection of Joe Bennett’s syndicated columns does contain a healthy serving of humour and is a great little book for dipping into.

Some of the columns I’d read before, others I’d missed first time around, but all of them were quirky, fun and delightfully written.

Joe Bennett is one of my favourite columnists because he has that enviable knack of often writing complete nonsense but doing it in a way that is both engaging and endearing.

There’s not a lot that provides this much for less than $30.

I come from the other land down under, where men are men, and sheep are nervous. I'm a sub-editor and in the past have been a proof-reader, news editor and web editor. I am also an ex-columnist, and book and software reviewer for the local daily newspaper.I still read. A lot. And surf the web. Also a lot. You'll find a little about both of those pastimes here, and on By George.
