Greetings and salutations

I grew up in a home where books were simply part of every day life thanks to the reading habits of my parents.

Their love of reading rubbed off on me and several of my siblings and as a result, I’ve always got at least one book on the go and often I’m working my way through two or three at once.

It’s probably quite fortunate then, that for a few years, part of my job involved books:  I was the books editor at The Southland Times.

I still read. A lot. And still review many of those books: in the past for the Book Chooks blog and for Southland’s community publications, and now for this blog, Books By George.

Along with the reviews here on this site, you’ll also find the occasional story or rambling thoughts on what happening in the world of books.  And sometimes just some rambling thoughts.
