A romping good read

The Inheritance,

by Tilly Bagshawe (HarperCollins, RRP $30):

This book has enabled me to tick the box on my summer reading bingo card (courtesy Invercargill Public Library), “a book by an author new to you”.

It could add, “but will definitely read again”.

Tatiana has been so badly behaved as a teenager and young adult that her beloved father has more or less disinherited her. She gets a trust fund IF she can fulfill certain requirements but ownership of the family estate, complete with stately mansion, has gone to a third cousin from Australia. Tati is heartbroken as well as livid. She is also extremely intelligent. She does put a stop to her profligate lifestyle in an attempt to gain back her birthright.

This is a romping good read with well rounded characters, set in a fictional Sussex valley within commuting distance of London.

I suspect there’s going to be a series about the inhabitants of Swell Valley as there are certainly some colourful neighbours who obviously have interesting lives too. Highly recommended.
